  • 1975 D Lincoln MPM?

Hi I know they quit hand punching Mint Marks into the working die in 1989 so would this be considered a misplaced mint mark? Is this a rare find? I have never found another like this and have went through thousands of pennies through the years. Thank you

Yes. I think it is. I am not a CONECA official though.

Misplaced where? I "assume" we are talking about just the obvious mint mark in the photo, a bit uncentered.

The US mint stance on mintmarks was that anywhere in the field, south of the date was an "acceptable" place for the mintmark to appear.
So, no, in my opinion, this isn't a rare find, as this working die, if it went through a normal working die life cycle, could have minted close to a million Lincoln Cents before being retired.

Thank you all for your answers. I thought since there Was a 5 cent Jefferson nickel out with the d mint mark that was also in a different spot and all over the coin sites as collectable I thought I really found something similar. Anyway I thank you all again.

In my opinion, the Jefferson Nickel is not in the field south of the date, thus it is why they consider this a "mis-placed mintmark".
Of all the coin series, I believe that the Indian Head cent series has a wide variety of Misplaced and Re-punched dates.

Here is an example of a "mis-placed mint-mark"

              that is odd, there is a 75-d 5c and a 57-d 25c mpmm.

(i'm sure there are some that dispute the 57-d tho) i THINK there is a D on the bell, frankie proof. what year is that, 62 or 60? meh, doesn't matter.

The Jefferson nickle series has its special coins. There is an inverted mintmark as well.

Yes the Jefferson Nickel Link you left for me to look at I was actually just looking at that very same image before I come here just now. I understand what you're saying with the Mint Mark being to the South of the Date but in just my opinion still doesn't make much sense to me. If one goose is good for the gander then the rest should be too, right. (Smiley Face Emoji) Thank you for explaining that to me because I would have wondered why. Have a great day and Thank you all again. Kim
