CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 2020 -P with an extra ear lobe

Being new to posting on CONECA’s website I neglected to post my question here on the errors site. So here is my question on a 2020 P Lincoln cent with a doubling of the ear lobe. See the attached photos. Since I first posted this, I have read the great article by Dr. Ron Brown in Errorscope I May/June 2020 issue on page 11 titled “It is not the word that commands the story; it’s the ear.” In it he lists 26 current DDO listings dating back to 1936 and most recent 2019. For those specializing the “extra ear” Dr. Brown states “…as a result of type VIII “Tilted Hub Doubling” that seems to be prevalent since the introduction of the single squeeze method of die making.” On my photo there might be an extra eye also.

sounds like an interesting article and information.

have you researched (aka looked at high-grade images) of some/most of the known ddos with doubled ears?

take note that some have been listed as hub doubling and rendered unlisable. (last i heard anyway)
