  • 1944 Wheat Cent Dbl 4 Die Clash?

Can anyone tell me if I might be correct in calling this 1944 Wheat Cent Doubled on the second 4 of the date which caused a Die Clash on the reverse. You can see from the pics, where the last 4 is doubled on the outer right edge and is inset in an indention which I believe to be a Die Clash. The reverse shows what appears to be a Die Clash at the top of the wheat ear on the right. Hope you can tell by my pics. They are a little out of focus on the enlargements. Any comments will be appreciated. Many thanks! Fran

It looks like you've got a small strike-thru error over the last digit. Either that or it's a lamination error. I'm not sure why either would have caused the doubling. The blemish on the reverse is apparently unrelated. I can't tell from here what caused it.

Thanks for your post, Mike. Looks like I goofed on my analysis. Upon closer inspection, I can see what appears to be some lamination just outside the indention where the 4 is doubled and another spot on the "U" in TRUST. There might also possibly be some lamination on both 4s because they are a little thick and uneven in some areas. The area where I thought was a possible die clash on the reverse appears to be nothing more than the difference in the finish which was captured from the lighting. So far I haven't been able to get a better pic of the coin for closer inspection. When I do, I'll be sure to post it for your further inspection. Thanks again for your knowlegde and have a super holiday weekend.
