In my opinion, more than likely post mint damage. I would venture to say it looks like a dryer coin. A coin can get trapped in a dryer, spin, drop and bounce for hours and cause the metal to be a bit softer. It will flatten the reeding and cause the dime to have a higher rim. If you use a other dime, the coin with the issue might be a tad bit smaller diameter wise.Gary Kozera
