1942S Mercury Dime with strange S
I'm searching a bunch of 1942s and found many S mint marks, a couple of inverted. But the S on this one is larger and seems mishappen to me compared with the other Ss I see. Attached is a picture of the funny S which seems inverted and a picture of what the other S marks look like. They are smaller and located a little differently.

In my opinion, it looks like the upper curve of the S was damaged.
You can see the damage on the NE of ONE as well.
Then, just below the middle bar of the E is some lower damage that might be related to the lower part of the S damage.
One thing to understand is look at the total area. Remember this coin is circulated and if this was done in the mint, the area would be discolored, not shiny and any crevices might be filled with debris or grime due to being in circulation for as long as it was.
Very difficult to know for sure what happened, but it appears to be post mint damage (pmd) which happened after it left the US Mint.
