CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

Can anyone help me out with what’s going on with George’s lip to his chin…would this be considered a die break? Any help would be appreciated..

Greeting`s, this is more common than people may think, and some call it Drooling George. Just a Die Chip. "herpes George" as well but I`m not fond of that one.

As the Die wears, the cavities for the devices and design begin to break down" Deteriorate" A die Chip will begin in some cases small, then subsequent coins that are struck by that die show the Chipping propagating further along.

So what your saying is a die chip will turn into a die break eventually such as the way that die chip is working it’s way down towards the chin? Eventually than once that breaks off the die is retired than correct? Thanks for the help I greatly appreciate it..

Chips are surface defects brought by Die wearing, Die Cracking is subsurface to the surface and are mostly thin and jagged.
