1978D LMC Error-Large "IN" GOD WE TRUST

I've found an unusual font size error in a 1978D LMC. The "IN" in the legend "IN GOD WE TRUST" is oversized and almost touching the rim, compared to the rest of the letters which are the normal distance away from the rim. See attached pics and compare to the front pictured 1978D LMC. Notice how large the "IN" is on the rear coin where you would expect it to be smaller since it sets behind and further away from the camera. The two letters seem normal, just much larger than the rest of the letters, and they don't appear to be unusually worn to have caused the upward stretch. Any idea how this could have happened... anyone? Does anyone know of any other 1978 LMCs with this characteristic? Maybe I found the first and maybe the only one. Thanks for looking and for your input. Fran

It appears to be the result of localized die deterioration. Die deterioration is not always uniform across the die face.
