  • 2006 Dime Slurred IGWT & Fadding LIBERTY

Found this dime in some change:
    - First is the "In God We Trust" (Slurred) or is there a better term for it.
    - Second the fading LIBERTY, base is strong but outer rim missing, is this a striking error?

As you can see the reverse side of the dime is normal.

    Your comments are welcome.
    Thanks

Looks to be that the obverse die had deteriorated to a point that it needed replacement and the reverse die more than likely already had been replaced.

    Just my opinion.

The numerals of the date look very thin, which indicates excessive intentional die abrasion (die polishing). The same thing goes for IN GOD WE TRUST, although these letters also show metal flow, which is an occasional side effect of being struck through grease. The weakness at the outer portion of LIBERTY would seem to be due either to slight weakness in the strike or the presence of grease on the die.
