CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

    1919 us penny Lamination error

Hi, what was the reason for the Lamination over the date. I see a die crack running from 4 o clock on the rim continue through the date over through the neck collar and exiting over the Liberty letters and out to rim at 9 0,clock .Did the crack cause the lamination error. The right and left eye has a letter o in eye .

This one is difficult to assess in my opinion. There appears to be damage on the date that travels from the south east direction and heads towards the north west. There is a lot of wear on the coin, which muddied this. It very well could be some lamination issues, but may have some damage as well. It's tough to prove it came from the mint, since it's a circulated coin, literally 105 years old.

If the date did not have the damage at the surface, it would have been a better chance at being a lamination error.

In my opinion, there is literally hundreds of possible combinations why things go wrong. Errors and varieties are getting much harder to find since the US Mint increased the quality assurance and control back in 2003. Most varieties and errors today are pretty minor but a few like Lincoln cent off center coins with more than 15 percent off center can pay for two weeks of groceries.

Rpms are now extinct since 1989 or so. Those will only increase in value over time, especially with the surge of the cheaper table top microscopes available these days.
