    Lincoln cent 1998, Error false.

If all the scratches are raised, it might have been an abraided die, or commonly known as die scratches. What is scratched into the die, is raised on the coin. There were areas like this on coins from working dies that clashed, and the only way to remove those clashes was to abraid them.

If the scratches are dug into the coin, it may be post mint damage. If the area of scratches are real shiny, and this coin is about 25 years old, exposed to circulation, it may mean the scratches were done recently, and may be post mint damage. If it is suspected to be sanding, look for hints of blue zinc peeking from under the thin layer of copper.

I learned something new. It is not a fake, I have looked closely at the coin and the damage also appears on the sack and Lincoln's face which is opaque.
