In my opinion, this coin may have been exposed to the elements, or been in the ground. The pitting is a good sign of environmental damage. As for the "missing edge lettering", there are select dollars with these issues. Again, in my opinion, the missing edge lettering is a passing fad/trend. The prices on those in high mint state have gone down considerably since there was some mintage numbers on how many may have been made that way.
The condition of this coin, it might have had the edge lettering eaten away. It's tough to tell, but if you look at the raised lettering around the rim on the obverse and reverse, there is significant wear there too.Last edited by MintErrors; 01-25-2024, 08:17 AM.
