CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

    lincoln penny 1983 D, copper ?

This coin is driving me crazy, it could be the plating, excuse me for putting two coins of the same year, but I do it so that you understand me. I don't have it to weigh, which has me more frustrated.

You would need the weight to confirm. But, having a known good zinc cent and the potential copper coin, you might be able to construct a popsicle stick and something under the stick to make a see saw or balance stick. It has to be pretty level with no coins on it, and then the center too is critical. Then place the coins one on each side, about the same place on the wood. See what coin is heavier.

Another thing with copper cents is when the coin is dropped an a stone surface, it may make a pronounced ringing sound. A zinc cent will not do this. I recommend trying another known good copper cent to test with, and when you are confident, try the 1982 potential copper coin.
