CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

    Post Mint Damage?

Hello - I am wondering if there is post mint damage to the coin. The coin teeters. Is this normal for a coin with an Obverse indent? Or is this post mint damage to the coin.

I have had this coin for awhile via a coworker and I have not felt at ease with it. Another opinion would be nice. Thank you for replying!

In my opinion, being dented is a big concern. There is some rim damage on the reverse at the bottom of the coin. Things are definitely odd with this one. Typically, if a coin is being squeezed by a pair of dies, it doesn't have a lot of wiggle room for the planchet becoming dented.

The shape on the obverse does not seem rounded like it should be. This is almost boxy in shape.

My suggestion would be to go to the FORUMS tab at the top of this page. Go to CONECA SERVICES . Under there go to EXAMINATIONS and place a post in there. A CONECA examiner will eventually look the coin over and determine its outcome.

To me, I personally do not feel comfortable calling this a legit error, but as OCC stated, there are many many different ways errors could be produced. There are as many or more garage geniuses out there that want to create their own errors as well, or use coins as some sort of tool.
