CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • Newbie intro

Hello, everyone. I am grateful to be able to be a part of this community. I have always collected coins, but not to the extent I do now. I appreciate history and every coin has it's own story to tell. I became a service worker and my friends would bring me all kinds of coins knowing how excited I'd get over them. Saying that, I do not have a collection, per se of any single set. I believe I will be able to continue to learn so much from this. I am new to identifying certain errors, butj i will get it with your patience. I'm not out to make money off this. I enjoy trying to discover new things. Thank you

    Welcome aboard.

We all have started at the beginning of this coin adventure - at least once. Some have been here all along. Others have become distracted by other things in life and eventually some have returned. For some it's in our blood for one or many reasons. For some, it's the thrill of the hunt. For others, it's the relaxing, logical thought process and wonderment of how these historical coins were made.

People open up a roll of coins, and it's like a chance at a mini lottery for every coin looked at. There will be tons of disappointments. There will be high points and lows. There may even a reward or two sprinkled in.

Varieties and errors are becoming more scarce in the USA due to the very high quality assurance and controls in place at the US Mints. The varieties, like re-punched mint marks have been eliminated since 1990.

But, there is a whole world out there where the pickings are much better, depending on what the desires are. European countries can be a haven for errors and varieties.

A website called https://error-ref.com lists hundreds of different types of errors that could be out there.

    Happy hunting
