Introduction
Hi, I'm Bryan a new member here, I'm somewhat new to the collecting of coins. I bought an old roll of pennies from McDonalds, I found a 1904 and the 4 is partially missing, I wondered if it might be an error of the die or something I should get certified. I welcome any thoughts on this coin. And thanks in advance for the help and advice.Tags: None

In my opinion, this was done after it left the mint. I can see some hints on the "C" in AMERICA and the area just above the "0" in the date that suggests to me anyway some one may have deliberately damaged the coin. IF I am correct and this was sent into a third party grading service, it would probably come back as a "details grade" and probably "damaged".
I don't personally give opinions on whether some one should or should not send in coins to be encapsulated. It depends on the reason, and the owner's personal preference. It's not always to make profit, it can be for what ever reason. The only thing I will add is that encapsulation of a coin is not cheap. If it is a single coin, most of the times one can expect to pay well over $50.00 to have it done.
