CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

I have recently started this hobby. I’m 74 and I have enjoyed the hobby. I have started with cents as not to confuse myself with other coins until I have a good grasp of what I’m looking for

    Welcome aboard.

There are some decent members of this coin forum that should be able to answer most of your coin related questions.

In my opinion, for varieties and major errors, they are getting quite scarce (and expensive) from the US Mint. They eliminated the re-punched mint mark in 1989. In 2003 or so, they added a tougher quality assurance and control program at the US Mint to thwart and major errors from escaping the mint.

There are plenty of European countries that offer impressive varieties ( doubled dies, overdates and re-punched dates) at a lower price.
