CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

      In my opinion, It's damage. Hard to say what happened. Once coins get into circulation they are open game to all sorts of damage and weird experiments. This one coin have been a 1948 copper coin that some one tried to convert it to a 1943. Only the coin knows what happened, and possibly the person who might have owned it.

        That looks about right, yeah. The strangely damaged coins seem to find their way to me. LoL. But I figured they would be worth sharing with the community. It would be interesting to see if anyone else has seen anything like it.
