Introduction
Hello everyone I'm Darla, I joined back in May but this is my first post. I'm learning some stuff by reading and searching but I definitely need a lot more basic education and hoping the experts here don't mind my "duh" moments. I have a few coins that I need educated on and also, can anyone tell me how the sellers on eBay get their pricings? I'm baffled! So my first question is about a 1986 d Lincoln cent that is being referred to as skinny Abe Lincoln but I don't understand. Is this called a clad issue or missing clad? Is it rare? Hello Darla and thanks for your introduction. Keep in mind that there are other areas in this forum to ask specific questions about your coins. With that said, the coin you have pictured looks as though the copper plating has been chemically removed outside of the mint. This is a common occurrence for the copper plated zinc lincolns. Regarding the sellers on ebay and pricing, the prices for error and variety coins are all over the board......a few low, some reasonable and most high. That is why it is important to familiarize yourself with the market and to make sure you are buying a legit error or variety. Many, many listings on ebay are bad. Be very careful and if just starting, buy from a reputable error dealer until you get comfortable with your knowledge.James Zimmerman
