New to Coins
Hi all! I'm very new to coin collecting and started kind of by accident through picking up metal detecting within the last few months. I am not a paying member. I've found that I enjoy roll hunting and the peace and quiet in sorting through it all. In my most recent penny rolls I was excited to find a 1909 wheat (no initials but still cool to me). Right now, I'm working toward learning how to identify various errors and varieties as well as using my camera/coin microscope to see them clearly. I know that I am and have missed many, but that's part the fun of learning. The challenges I'm dealing with currently are identifying these subtle spreads and what exactly they look like as well adjusting my camera settings to be able to clearly see details on shiny coins zoomed in (you know, like how they look on the error/variety sites). So far, the camera thing is proving most challenging! I appreciate being here and drawing on everyone's experience!Tags: None

Welcome aboard. The hobby has its ups and downs. More disappointments than rewards but the peace and quiet, coupled with the logical thinking of how that could happen or, assessing a coin whether an error or variety is priceless. As far as camera set up, its not just the camera, but the lighting seems to be the #1 pain for me when trying to get that quality photo.
I do have a few articles on my website related to taking photos and some of the equipment I have and other I tried and moved on.
Happy hunting.Gary Kozera
