1972D Lamination/cud?
I came accross this 1972D Lincoln cent while searching coins. I am having a issue identifying the correct error. It looks like a cud error but also like the remains of a lamination from another lincoln cent. On the reverse cud there is partial design features of the Lincoln memorial.Tags: None

Yes, I agree with occnumis2021 . IF it was planchet related, it would have been the same color. It almost looks like chewing gum gone bad. It looks like the coin was struck normally, then after it left the US Mint, it had this damage done. Post mint damage....PMD.Gary Kozera

I am nowhere near an expert on anything coin-related, but I believe cuds are specifically related to the rims / edges of coins. Anything aside from that would be a die break so long as it is contained within the coin itself. Anyone please feel free to correct me if I am mistaken in my description, as I am always open to learning more!

You are correct, but in this instance, this is pmd and I did not feel the need to explain that to the OP, since the coin appears not to be error related.Gary Kozera
