CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

    New member introducing myself

Started collecting coins in 1958. My friend and I would go to the local bank and buy a few rolls of pennies looking to find coins for our Whitman album. We were amazed in 1959 when we found the Lincoln memorial reverse. A few years later(1963 to 1965), I was now old enough to get working papers. I worked at the circus as a vendor. In between shows we would gamble by pitching quarters against a wall and closest took the pot. When the 1965 quarters came out I was intuitively struck that I needed to save the silver ones and in there lies where the "silver bug" in me was born, LOL. I became a Morgan dollar collector in the early 70's and bought some of the CC issues from the GSA sale in 1973. After experiencing the 1980 gold and silver peaks I decided to take a two semester coarse in numismatics at Adelphi college in 1981. Now armed with my newfound knowledge I started attending various coin shows and auctions. My highlight was attending all of the Garrett collection sales conducted by Bowers and Rudy in the early 1980's. In hindsight I wish I would have bought more of those coins but prices seemed astronomical to me at the time. With the bear market in metals(1982-2002) I backed off coins and concentrated on my business. In 1977 while in a store I spied some 40% silver halves in the registered and bought them from the cashier. This prompted me to start coin roll hunting the banks and target only half dollars. I did this for many year and will still do it today if I find my local bank has some halves. My buddy got quite well off and he loves the 1915 Pan Pac series. He has some top graded coins for all the denominations mainly purchased at Heritage auctions.
