I am happy to be welcomed to this group and will enjoy using it to further my knowledge of coins.
I have been a coin collector for around 3 years after inheriting a small collection from my father after his passing. I know he collected coins for most of my life but sadly did not pay any attention to them at all. Once they were my responsibility to value for the estate I had to look them up (love the red-book). As I looked up each one, I got more and more interested and fell more and more in love. The history, the art, the symbolism! Knowing so many of them came from my grandfather, great uncles and aunts, my father and other members of my family. I could not help it, I ended up buying out my siblings for them and kept the collection. I have been steadily adding to it strongly for the last few years.
I have a deep seated love for 1800s American coins. Seated liberty (with all its flaws) is my favorite coin type. I have delved into metal detecting to help fill some of my collection needs as well. My greatest (numismatic) find was a 1843 Seated liberty at the location of a civil war encampment site from a Mississippi union campaign. Knowing I was likely the first person to hold it after it was dropped is a whole other feeling!
Anyhow, As I constantly go through my collection again and again, adding to it and re-cataloging it. I have learned to appreciate the different varieties and errors possible on most coin types. This let me naturally to joining this forum.
I am not currently a paying member of Coneca but will be looking into it.
I greatly appreciate all my fellow enthusiasts and hope I can be of some assistance to others once I become more proficient!
Thank you for your time and I look forward to enjoying the hobby further with you all!
