1992 Washington Quarter no / Faded Mint Mark
Hi, I am a member of Coneca. N-7878. I am looking at a 1992 Washington Quarter without a mint mark. I do not think there is any damage to this coin. Is it a grease error or something else? DanYou do not have permission to view this gallery.

In my opinion, in the full obverse photo I can barely see the mint mark. But its there. This means its probably a grease filled die or, debris (small metal chips and grease) simply filled in the mint mark hole on the working die. It was pretty common prior to 2003.
The mint marks were hammered into the working die prior to 1990. What is punched/sunk into/incused into the dieis raised on thecoin. When the working dies squeeze a planchet (blank) what is sunk on the dies become raised on the coin.Gary Kozera
