Buckles is my name and I'm a new member. Located in Oregon. I have a coin collection left to me by my Father. I'm 87 now and he gave me the coins 60 years ago. I have never done anything with them until now. I have 191 pennies dating back to 1917 to 1999. In addition, I have some quarters, 1/2 dollar and 1 dollar coins. My favorite is a bronze $1 dated 2000 P. I would like some direction as to what I should do to sell my collection. At my age, I have no use for them.

In my opinion, your best bet would be to invest in a "pocket sized" Redbook.

The Red Book will give your a lot of information as well as tell your where the mint marks are located on each series of coin. That will also help you identify an approximate value of the coin. You can look at middle of the road prices and get a general idea what a coin may be worth.

You can visit a local coin shop or, look on https://coinzip.com . Choose your state and see if there are any coin shows in your area.
IF you go to a coin shop, tell them you inherited them and would like to keep them, and your looking for an "insurance" value, in case you'd have to replace them. THEN, you maight get a better idea of what the coins are worth. TYPICALLY dealers at shows may offer close to 50% of what the coins are worth.

As far as disposing of the coins, how you do it and how much you are looking to get for them is all on you. You could also see if there are any young collectors in your area that might be interested in those coins.

Just as a heads up - The CONECA staff frowns on talking value, and grading of raw coins.
