CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

    Hi There!!

Hi Everyone!! If been an amateur collector of Canadian coins since I was young piecing together date sets and over the years have continued adding to that collection. I have now inherited a pile of US coins from my wife’s grandfather and been sorting through them like crazy, but it seems I have A LOT to learn about the US varieties etc. I have been browsing on the NGC forum and was directed here by a few members!

I am also a collector of responsibly sourced antiquities from around the world as I travel quite a bit for work!

I have already learned to be a skeptic when I find things that look odd and will do my best to filter out the dumb questions that I am sure to have!!

Also just paid for a membership because volunteers are amazing people and organizations like this should be supported!

    Nice to meet you!

    Welcome aboard.

Prior to 1989 repunched mint marks were popular. They have became extinct in the 1990s since mint arks were added as part of the design vice hammered into each working die.

In my opinion, 1995 was the last true doubled die with multiple squeeze technique.
They now do a single squeeze technique and the "doubled dies" after 1996 to current look different.

For modern era US coins a few variety websites like
