CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

    Welcome aboard !

The spitting eagle applies to a 1891-CC Morgan Dollar.

This coin looks like a die crack a post mint damage, a scratch, dent or some other condition.
The obverse of the coin looks like it was harshly cleaned as well.

Might be an unrepaired clash mark from the lower neck portion of the obverse.

Yes, that is a strong possibility as well. Good point SumD.

Where would you like to send it in. The options are:

A third party grading service that would encapsulate/slab the coin and offer amplification on the label on what type of an error this "might" be. It can get pricey. it would cost more than $40 to have a service like this done. It's a personal call whether you'd like to have it done or not.

Sending it into CONECA for an attributer to look it over and determine what the issue is. They probably return the coin with a letter describing the issue, but it is not slabbed/encapsulated. You'd have to communicate with the attribution or examiners areas of the forum for more details. They would let you know what the issue is with the coin, and whether it would be a candidate for CONECA attributer to look over with coin in their hand. Some CONECA attribution services may not yet be online, so please ask them for more details.

You’re wasting time and money if you sent this coin anywhere. The spitting eagle is just a made up name for a Morgan dollar that has a die gouge below the beak. Yours is a remnant of a clash of Washingtons throat. Very common. Doesn’t carry a premium

I get it. I noticed that certain quarters were certified with this description through pcgs, so when I noticed it on the Kennedy, I thought maybe I found d the first one. Oh well....lol
