CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

Hi Im Denise from Washington state

Hello from “sunny” south-of-Seattle! Long time wanna-be cherry picker from Tumwater who has a collection of errors (I hope) that may fund my retirement and let my hardworking elderly parents grow old in comfort. I focus mainly on pennies but i do examine every coin that ends up in my hot little hands. Cant wait to be educated by my peers and fellow collectors! Let the learning begin.

Welcome aboard. Some good folk in here to help you along.
In my opinion, the most important thing to do is to start with a good reference list of websites.

Die varieties such as doubled dies, Repunched mint marks (RPMs), Over Mint Marks (OMMs), Repunched Dates, Overdates, coin design varieties, as well as regular coins and error coins.

On the main forum page, at the bottom there is an area which list good websites.
In my signature, I have a few posts that address commonly asked questions.

    Happy 'pickin.

      Excellent incentives.

I suggest as a quick course in knowledge to follow the guidance given by Mr. Kozera above, which will make your hunting more successful using the accurate research tools suggested and utilize your time by searching with guidelines not just hope and pareidolia.

      Happy hunting.

One thing that helped was learning the minting process. Here are some links to some videos explaining the minting process. Knowing the minting process will teach what a true error is compared to post mint damage. Just my two cents. And P.s. I live north of you on Whidbey Island.
