This is my first post. I just signed up and am not a paid member. I would like to introduce myself and share a bit of my coin collecting background, which I’ve mostly been doing in the past 2 years. I did do a light bit of collecting back in the 80s when SBA dollars and Bicentennial coins were quite plentiful in circulation. My dad had also given me a small box of foreign coins that he had accumulated while traveling around the world, as he was in the military from the 40s to the 60s. I cherry picked a bunch and kept them in 2x2 flips in an old projector slide box, which I still have to this day.
Fast forward to 2020, while at home during the lockdown, I came across several “coin roll hunting” and “cherry picking” videos online, which re-ignited my interest in this hobby. I bought boxes of coins from my bank – from quarters to half- dollars and small dollars – and got a lot of interesting finds, from proof coins, silver coins, W quarters, and even foreign coins. I also got a whole bunch of coins from a friend who accumulated her pocket change in a vase. I also got a lot of interesting finds here, from silver quarters and “error” dimes, to war nickels and “woodie” pennies.
Though this is my first time posting here, I had been to your site once before around 2 years ago. This was from a mention of your site by a Youtube user named “BlueridgeSilverhound” and my visit was short after a quick scan. I thought your site was simply an informational or reference site. Then last week, I saw a video by a Youtube user named “CoinHelpU” which mentioned that you guys do variety attributions, which is what brought me here now. I have a couple of Washington Quarter varieties that I found which I’d like to get attributed. I think these 2 varieties have a connection, meaning that one variety led to the creation of the other. This “connection” is simply a theory of mine at this point. I have done some research and got nothing except the proverbial “run-around” at every turn. I contacted the National Archives and the records department at the US Mint, filed FOIA requests, viewed microfiched documents, and even got into an email conversation with one of NARA’s “coin experts” but ultimately I did not find any evidence to back my theory.
Ultimately however, I think that the proof is in the pudding (pun intended) and that these 2 coins will tell their story.
I will post about these varieties and my “connection” theory in my next post.
Have a nice day and TGIF.
