CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

Hi, my name is Paul. I am a paid member as of late February and wish I had joined years ago. My collecting background started back in the early‘60s. I don’t know if a kid putting pennies into a blue book with holes in it really is classified as collecting, but I did it. Though, I remember liking the mercury dimes and kept any I found. I cringe every time I think about the silver that passed through my hands over my younger years. In the ‘70s I got a little more serious about collecting coins and started searching a few rolls and keeping more silver. But as happens, life gets in the way: college, marriage, children, working long hours - coins were lost in the hustle and bustle of life. Out of habit, my pocket change got checked and any good coins, silver, and wheaties were put into a bowl. Then an injury left me bouncing back from surgeries and physical therapy for six years. I ended up with limited mobility. I felt I needed to do something I enjoyed from the past, so I decided to really hit coin collecting.

In 2008, I started searching a few penny rolls. I joined some forums with some fantastic people that were so very helpful. I like to look for varieties and errors. Learning about what causes the mint errors fascinates me. Jason C. was on one of the forums at the time. His posts were always interesting. I am sure I was known as the MD king for about a year and a half until I got it figured out - sort of. I may have unrealistic goals, like finding all the varieties for the 1960 LD/SD pennies, but I keep on looking. Over the years, my interests have diversified. I am still a devout penny guy but enjoy 3 Cent-Nickels, Kennedys and Ikes, and lately Walkers and Benji’s. I do collect the US/Philippine coins through WW2, some select Canadian coins, and most foreign coins in general. The problem is, I see something cool in just about every coin, so I want to keep it. What I have learned over the years is that numismatics is a fascinating and very habit-forming hobby.

Hello Paul.......if you have a chance, please post some of your finds. I started collecting when silver was just starting to disappear from circulation. I think we all have stories about how we should have kept this or that. Thanks for your CONECA membership and looking forward to hearing from you again.
