I don't know. It could be post mint damage, Could be a grease filled die. Photos are needed to confirm.Gary Kozera

In my opinion, the letters on the reverse - even though the photo is a bit blurry can be seen, with the weakest on LI of LIBERTY. It has a lot of circulation to this coin. It might be due to a grease filled die, but it is pretty minor since most of the letters can still be seen. People love drama when it comes to coins, and the more ( within reason) the better.
I am a bit cautious on this coin, because of the area that is Southeast of the mintmark, near the rim.
IF that area is separating a little from the coin, its a sign that the coin may have been exposed to some high heat. It could have been in a dryer, on top of a water heater, a stove, grill or other high heat producing area. It probably was not on there for long....That area might be simply a stain, but I thought I would point that out.
The coin in the link below is on the edge of having enough of the devices missing to be significant. It's not going to make anyone rich, but it may bring in enough revenue to buy a day to two worth of comfort food.

The grease filled coins seem to be more common on Lincoln Cents and the Washington Quarters.
