    New to the Forum

Hello. My name is Howard and I am a new member of Coneca and new to the hobby since retirement about 6 months ago. I have a 2005 D Jefferson nickel and I would like to know of the additional lines on the buffalo's back and tail would be considered a double die or something else. Thank you.

    hi.

welcome to the forum and the king of hobbies.

first off, nice pics. a bit dark but pretty nice. a little tweaking and you'll have some very good images on your hands.

i've seen some REALLY odd doubled dies on modern coinage but to me this does not fall into range of even the odd ddos/ddrs.

i'd say most likely just machine doubling from either die bounce or ejection or something. doesn't quite look like die erosion going by the rest of the coin not looking lds/vlds.

BUT, it will cost you nothing to stick it in a 2x2 and save for later as even after all our advice, your decision is the final decision and once you toss a coin you never get it back and for face value at the VERY least, it can be a good example to study of what not to keep or what to keep.

i haven't met too many older dealers/collectors that didn't have a rather large "i don't know what the heck is going on with these coins" box.

this isn't necessary but since i can do it quick n easy (after having done it hundreds of thousands of times lol), i'll go ahead and add it.

Thank you very much. You’re right, I do have the box of questions you described but I thought it best to not overwhelm everyone. Thanks again and I’ll put other pictures up soon. Hope you all will find something fun to look at!

Welcome to the group! I am new here too. I saw your post about the 2005 D Bison Nickel and I also have one tucked away somewhere. I was wondering that myself. We may have something here. At the top of the Bison's back, it looks like there is a rounded doubled area on the top right of your picture. That is the same type of doubling on my coin. I thought about sending it in one day to be looked at closer. I may try and find mine to take pics. You may want to send it in and get credit for it, the folks here are great!

Thanks for the suggestion. Not sure how to go from here but will keep your idea in mind.
