Hello everyone, I'm new to Coneca. My name is Ray Martin from Baltimore, Maryland, I Signed my application its off in the mail for 2 year membership. My day job is an automotive electrical specialist and im a full time dad. Iv always kept an eye on coins with errors but never really saved them. Iv been collecting seriously for the past 2 years. I'm very excited to learn new errors, meet new people and to be part of such a cool Organization! And I myself do come across coins that I would like to know more information about. What got me seeking Coneca was a 1988 P penny that had MD and doubling on the reverse side and could not find any information relating to that coin. I will attach some pictures. welcome to co-neca forum and numismatics (belated). i'm not official here but do have a bit of experience.

you have a neat coin there (nice pics!) that has a lot going on. nothing fancy or major but great educational/conversational stuff.

as you stated, machine doubing which is actually very neat on your coin. i had to do a double-take just to be sure. nice "radial crack" which goes from the rim towards the center of the coin, a nice either weakly struck area or grease struck-through STATES OF. lots of die polishing, as usual and lets not forget, last but not least, active corrosion! no numismatic copper/bronze collection would be complete w/o at least one coin with this. lol (everything is in a state of entropy huh)

when it comes to machine doubling, there isn't exactly official data because it is too meaningless to track most of the time. sometimes it appears on some varieties/errors and CAN be a somewhat diagnostic relevant piece of info but the other 99.9%, it is really to just be ignored even in some of the extreme versions. (although there are of course, some people that probably collect coins with it) 8 billion people, something for everyone eh?

Thank you for the welcoming! I do greatly appreciate you taking the time and thorough In depth detail on this coin. And WOW! First weekend on Coneca and iv learned so much! Tho it does sadden me to know this coin is chocked up to MD... lol. Great MD coin for that special collector lol. I do have a handful of other coins I have found in the past couple of years similar from possible planchet errors to odd markings. I will soon post and share. I value your knowledge and expertise. it makes it easier to identify MD coins for years there are no known ddo/ddr etc. doesn't mean one won't come to light but it just places the odds at about a billion to one, ya know?
