  • Greetings from Tucson

Greetings from the desert. Over 40 year collector and i have found a very interesting 1973 D Kennedy half dollar in my mint set. i KNOW it is a DDO, i just cant tell which one it is, i think mine is a different die state than the known examples shown or something as i cannot tell for the life of me which one it is. I THINK it is the DDO-001 shown on variety vista,or possibly a DDO-002(JUST BECAUSE SAID FOUND IN MINT SETS) but its not EXACTLY the same because mine does not show the doubling on the LI of liberty, or possibly DDO-004 , and im thinking EDS, would be the reason for not exact match? Sorry in advance for glare on photos, its taken through the govt plastic packaging its in still. Thank you in advance for any help you may give

how about the mm position. thiis can usually help to eliminate choices and since there is only 6 on V V, should be easy to nail it down.

i can say for just about certain that it isn't the 101, that is pretty strong and the S in trust doesn't match yours.

hello. Thank you for the reply back. i didnt even think to check the mm positions on V V , i was focused on the B and the 7.could be 004, since i didnt see anything on the LI of liberty. it almost to me looks like the doubling is more towards the center, if that makes sense, or just OFF center, like it got slightly, slightly rotated when being hubbed up. i couldnt really find a good enough picture(pics were good, coins later die state with design flattened )that showed any kind of the separation that i was seeing on my coin. Not a bad little surprise to find, in a 50 year old still sealed envelope set i bought for the Eisenhower dollars! i would be a happy camper, if its a coin that can be included on V V, or CONECA , i would do all necessary steps needed , if it could be a confirmation coin for an EDS, or a new one, haha, maybe its a LDS coin, i dont know THAT much about how its done, i SAW IT DONE at the Philadelphia Mint, in 79 or 80, and that was just mesmerizing for an 11 year old kid, the kachunk and the noise of all the coins in the tumblers, and the HEAT. that was generated inside was pretty bad if i recall, stifling to an11 year old, and to be able to maybe get my name in a book on coins, for future family members to be able to see the contribution i made, i would die a HAPPY man, to be able in some way, be a contributor on a coin that is going on 50 years old, and still no confirmation of EDS on most of the 6 on V V, I saw one, but cant recall if more or not. im excited to figure out what i have! THANKS again, for your patience and expert knowledge, Scott.
