CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

    Ulysses Grant Presidential dollars, uncirculated roll, several coins are like this, is this a strike error, ejection error, etc?

    In my opinion, If they all look similar, it could very well been a slightly clipped planchet.
    It could have been a faulty metal alloy mix.
    If the issue occurred in the same area on each coin, it could have been an issue when adding the inscription along the rim.

    I could go on and on, its just tough to know for certain what happened to them to tell you the honest truth. Again check for patterns, Line up all the affected one on top of each other and see if it tells you anything. Logic rules over assumptions.
