CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

    Alaska State Quarter

Found this in a roll of quarters sometime back. The strike on the 8 is weak but I am missing the entire word ENUM.

The working dies may have been clogged with grease in that area which would give the coin the effect of the grease filled die, not allowing the design elements to show up. So a struck through grease filled die is very possible.

I am fairly new to coins. Is this something I should get graded? Any insight would be great.

Hi Miriam ,Gary is right ,that coin will sell on eBay for about $ 20 so is not worth to spend the money for grading .Good luck searching .

I understand you are fairly new to collecting. But sending this in to a third party grading service can get pricey. You have to consider spending close to or above 50 dollars for an error coin. Then, what is that coin worth ? CONECA staff frowns on talking about value but let's just say there would not be that much return on investment for this coin. The main reason is it looks circulated, and prices tend to be lower for circulated to heavily circulated coins.

Then, you have other reasons to send it in, that some what sentimental or to preserve or to pass down from generation to generation.

Research and logical thinking will guide you. You can get an idea on submission prices on their website for ANACS.com , NGCcoin.com and PCGS.com. Don't forget to include the return postage from the TPG to you, that can be close to 25 bucks. Depending on where you live, some of the TPG services set up at coin shows. They can give you a better idea of what a typical submission could cost. Or, simply call them. One last thing.... depends on the TPG, but it may take quite a long time ( maybe 5 to 7 weeks) for the coins to come back to you, IF they have to send them out to an expert for consultation.

Neat! I like missing parts on coins. I think that's cooler than extra bits, like the extra claw.
