Jefferson Nickel 1945-D DDO-005 Rust
In the Master List, it mentions in Stage A that "Obverse die is pitted, probably from rust EMDS." However, I don't see anything highlighted, pointed out, or obvious. Could someone please let me know if the rust is pictured or not? Either way, on a specimen could you please let me know where to look on the coin so I can look for it? Thank you for whatever help you can give!Tags: None

Hello JPHuff,
First question: does the Reverse of your coin show RPM#2? The Reverse die of this coin was paired with this OBV die most if not all of DDO-005's life. If you do not have an RPM on the REV then it's more than likely not DDO-005.
The Rust pitting looks like Jefferson has the measles or chicken pox. They are all over Jefferson's profile: Here is an example: 1945-D_DDO-005_Forehead_Behind_Eye.jpg 1945-D_DDO-005_Lower_Nose_Lips.jpg 1945-D_DDO-005_Jaw.jpg 1945-D_DDO-005_Coat.jpg
I hope this helps.

Hey Eric! Thank you so much for this information and the visuals! I do not have a specimen on hand. I just research rust on modern coins so I was interested in that aspect for this variety but didn't see the rust pictured in the master list photos. Also, it didn't mention where it was to potentially match up as a die marker. Thank you again!
