CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 1982D DDR

This is a 1982D 3.11g Lincoln penny with doubling in CENT. I looked it up in Variety-Vista but didn't see one in the DDR listing. 20240519_231617.jpg

the C looks promising from the image but in light of the NT i'm calling MD.

the other 2 DD aren't known for doubling in that area fwiw

pretty rare for a DD issue to be in different locaitons for any one year/mm. (but not impossible)

I'm working on getting some better quality pics out. I've gotten some EXCELLENT pointers on taking them. Did you notice the lower left bottom of the 'E' in CENT with its shelf?

In my opinion, It looks like worthless doubling to me. If the doubling was that much off you might have seen a thicker letters, and some should have had split serifs or notching. I see normal width letters, and shelf like damage, which I believe is worthless doubling.

I rarely say this, but it has helped people comprehend doubled dies a bit better. Trust the resources. If they haven't listed the exact thing your looking at, then it probably isn't a DDO nor a DDR. Sure new discoveries might happen once in many blue moons, but each Lincoln cent die can strike close to one million coins, and this one would have been found many moons ago if it was a variety.
