Hello Mchera,
You have a nice silver quarter. The D/D is not an RPM - "Re Punched Mintmark" from what I see in your photo's it looks like the mintmark took a bag hit from another quarter. notice the metal is moved to the center north. This is what is called Post Mint Damage or PMD.
Hope this helps.

I don't want to step on anyone's toes. I believe it is legit. I have 3 or 4 Almost Identical to it in my collection. If it is a post Mint damage I have more than one with Identical PMD. 1964D Quarters have over 6 RPM listings and depending on the stage of the Die breakdown or deterioration, they can very in many ways. I just opened a uncirculated roll of Denver Mint 1964 and have a multitude of die cracks, RPMs and DDO-001 in that one roll. I have attached images from that one. I Screenshot 2024-07-08 121959.pngmchera, this is one of 4 I have in my book at home. The ones above are from last roll of Quarters I opened on Friday. The QA at Denver in 1964 was pretty bad it seems. I believe that what you have is legitimate RPM and I believe if it was a PMD then there would be further marks on the coin. Just my Opinion but examine it under a Jeweler's Loup and see it from a slanted angle. You will see it if it is PMD. Our Microscopes tend to miss the 3D detail.

Hello Delmarvalous Digging.
All the coins attached above are Machine Damage. Flat and shelf like. Sorry but those photo's are not RPM's either.
If you look closely above, at HIS coin, you can see the metal pushed North, which is different then the coins you posted - flat, shelf like; Machine Damage or ejection doubling. Which ever you prefer.
Coneca frowns on posting photo's to another person's post. I will post a very nice 1949-D RPM001 so you both can see an actual RPM. The remnants of the second and third mintmark are raised and have serifs showing that they are part of the design on the die.
I hope this helps you both.
Eric

by YOUR DEFINITION FLAT OR SHELF LIKE = MACHINE DAMAGE . If that is your criteria, then 50% or more in cherry pickers guide are not RPMs. I would add that the only true mint mark doubling would therefore be OMMs D/S S/D S/CC etc. Just because it has not been identified as a know RPM does not mean that there are not more out there. The ones I posted are doubling of the mint mark an RPM. Shelflike or Flat does not mean that is not an RPM. I have read multiple books on this and firmly believe that some nay sayers base their entire opinion on those two criteria. We will just have to agree to disagree on this subject matter I guess.
have a great weekend
