Which RPM is this 1961 D
Is this Lincoln 1961 D RPM-038 or RPM-039 or maybe a completely different one. I've tried to match it to the descriptions on coneca variety page but I'm having a really hard time identifying it. Can anyone tell by these pictures?Tags: None

It looks like RPM-038 to me. Are there any markers you can match up? You might want to try coppercoins.com if the CONECA site isn't enough to make a positive ID.

In the middle of my D you can see more of the flat side of the extra D then you can see on the coppercoins webpage. The coppercoins 038 says it's coin is LDS, so do you think mine could be an EDS or MDS because it shows more detail of the extra D. It would make sense that a LDS would show less detail because of die polishing.

I am sure the die state is different between the two. The area inside the mintmark is protected, and less susceptible to damage. Some RPMs actually get stronger as the die wears. The position of the mintmark in relation to the date is a primary means of identification, especially when there are similar varieties out there.Bob Piazza
