I have a ,1942 D over horizontal D fs-501 (027) full steps in grade ms-67+ or ms-68. I see the highest grade is ms-65 at $11,000.00 I wanted peoples opinion on what you think this coin at the two grades would potentially sell for at auction. It's to bad I can't show the photos of both coins the other coin is a 1942 P/P type 2 RPM Full steps in grade 67 ot higher estimated at $2,000.00 in ms-66 which I think is a low estimate it has never been sold and is one of a kind.
On this form I can only attach the photos of the mint marks if any send me their email I will send the photos of both coins thanks for your time and opinions

First we do not give valuations. Second the coins would have to be slabbed by PCGS or NGC to show the grade. Otherwise it is just your opinion to the grade level.

Another thing, you expect us to evaluate a coin on your standards, and we are not privy to the obverse and reverse photos of the coin. I personally do not always agree with grades of coins dones by other people unless by a TPGs or certified ANA graders.

In my opinion, in this day and age, the higher graded coins that are extremely expensive, require some one that's willing to pay big dollars, usually in an auction setting don't happen for coins in the 1920s to present. It's nice that they are rare, but people aren't typically going to spend a ton on a nickel. If you're not an ANA certified grader, your opinion counts, but it may not be graded as high as you think.

An estimate is just that. If it is a rare coin, then unless several auctions have been completed, there is no way to accurately assess the value, since people cannot buy more than one at a time.

For a coin in that high a grade, it's a crap shoot when you send it in for grading. Some TPGs will charge extra fees ( close to 1+% of the value of the coin) to handle a high grade coin in order to protect themselves, and for insurance and shipping back to the owner.

Your best bet is to search Heritage auctions and see what people have paid for this year and mintmark in the past. It should be researched and all three TPGs should be researched for the amount of coins in each grade.

This forum and its rules is not the place to ask those type questions. There may be other venues out there that might entertain your questions. But without full photos, they probably will pass as well.

Without certification, people probably would not touch this.
And I for one, I am not interested in giving up an email address for this.

ok i see now. Saw those ridiculous grade estimates and wanted some bona fide. also the d/d didn't look right to me so hoping for a trueview.

I think maybe I saw this coin the 1942-D on ebay. Not sure if the person is the seller or a purchaser. I saw the price and Wowwa way out of coins value in my oppinion. From the close up there it could be an RPM but right off hand it wasn't the Inverted as Lance somewhat saw from the post above. There is another photo there, that was not posted here. I just moved on.

I just went and looked on ebay. The auction is gone so someone either bid and won or the seller took the auction down.

The coin that you saw on eBay is not my coin. I will attach another photo but I'm sorry it was taken from my cell phone of my micro scopes screen so it's not great. I will also attach again the 1942 P/P rpm type 2 mine has full steps which there is only one. I'm going to send them in next month. When I get them back I'll post the pictures or the cert #. I have looked on coin facts about both coins and I'm sure they are the variety. I do appreciate the interest but like I was told they need to be graded. It 1942 d/d is in high grade the pillar & steps are flawless same with the high points on the obverse & reverse I've looked at the highest grade coin on PCGS website & mind is better then the one shown ms-66+ or ms-65. My coin only has 2 very small marks on the coin & they are in the yellow area on the coin shown on sites about grading Jefferson's. Only time will tell I asked the price to help me pick the right grading tier for PCGS.

Hello Minpinroo62. The photo's of the 1942-D are not in focus. Have you clicked on your photo's to see them once you have uploaded and then posted?
This technique has helped me when posting photo's. Gary "Minterrors" has a nice piece on doing photo's with a cell phone. It's here on the forum.

Is the photo of the 1942-P flat? it looks a bit raised side to side which makes it tough to align against Variety Vista. The photo needs to be flat when taken - this is one of mine: 1942-P-RPM#4C-UNC-M.jpg

The second photo gives me a reference on BU of Pluribus. So I think I have it. I would check the photo reference for 1942-P/P - RPM#28
I took the time to straiten the photo and re size:

                          1942-P-Coneca.jpg
The secondary seems the same and also the mintmark placement from what I can see. Check Dr. Wiles's reference photo's / markers or search www.conecaonline.info click on Jefferson Nickels, then search 1942-P RPM#28 and check the markers against your coin and position of the mintmark with relationship to Pluribus.
                          Hope this helps,
                          Eric

It's OK and I'm sorry I thought it might be posted on e-bay. It looked familiar to a coin I saw there.. Close ups that are in focus are very important. Merry Christmas!! I have just a few days for post cards - were late. I'm trying to get some RPM's up to date. I understand busy with alot to do before we end 2024!
                              Happy Holidays!!
