CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

The "TRUST" looks doubled especially in "R". Nice strike to for a 80's quarter.
It has a small die crack on lower bust and reverse left outside wing.

In my opinion, to some this might resemble a doubled die, based on the R in TRUST. BUT, it's more than likely something else.

Look how thin that letter at the top level of that R is. To me it seems about 50% of what the letter should be. All of the other letters located at IN GOD WE TRUST appear normal. They don't mimic the R in any way, those other letters are not thicker and none appear to show split serifs/notching.

Now, take a look at the flat field around the IGWT. There is a lot of light so from my end it's difficult to see all of it. But it looks like there is something people used to call "flat field doubling". IGWT appears to have that ghostly impression surrounding some of the letters. Have a look at the G D R S. Those are the ones I can see at current light levels.

Whether the working die hiccupped or stuttered during the strike is unclear. I will look at the reverse to see if there are any more clues to this happening. If there is anything further to add, I will do so. Problem with this forum is, once you go back to evaluate photos and then go back to add more Comme ts, you have to "restore" the post. Sometimes it saved all comments, some times not so much. I will close this out and go look.

In the mean time, some possible assistance on the subject:

There is an entry over at error-ref.com but, it specifically targets proof coins. It's super important to note that most proof coins from the US Mint are struck more than once for the coin to have the best possible details on the coin. Here is that article.
