1957(60) 5 Ptas reverse doubled die

Why does it seem easier to find foreign errors than U.S. one's? Don't they have QC?
This is a reverse doubled die in arrows, denticles, star date and eagles right wing and tail feathers.

I see the doubled denticles. I am not well versed in the minting process for some world countries. I will have to look at the in the morning. With that much spread on the denticles, I would imagine there would be more evidence of a variety or possible error.

I have a good friend who collects a LOT of foriegn varieties.
I have been priviledged to take photos of hundreds of raw and slabbed foriegn coins.

I would say pre-COVID prices were some what lower than today. But the collectors still sell them at decent prices, and a few dealers dont even bother looking for the varieties on coins. I have seen some amazing varieties come from a lot of european countries and select other parts of the world.

Its like anything else when the US collectors are finding slim pickings on their own soil, some will gravitate to another country or continent to continue to fill that need to find a variety or error.

I talk with my friend weekly or so and he is always scoring some foriegn variety finds. The foriegn mints do have Quality Control, but look at the year.... this coin is 1957. In 1955 and 1958, we had our issues with some major doubled dies and three years later had a Denver mint produce well over 100 varieties on just the cent.

I think I see doubling on the "broken" arrows to the south and east near the rim. I see it on the arrow tips and maybe on the arrow feathers ? I cant zoom in close enough on the full coin photo of the suspect side to verify the existance the doubling on feathers.

I suggest to look around the rim area where the denticles are doubled the strongest. There may be additional doubling there. The coin is circulated so spotting the doubling is inhibited due to circulation.

The lighting is just too bright on the southern area of the coin on the full coin photo. I think I see some additional doubling to the south, but the glare does notcallow me to feel confident about the assessment.

Last thing, this is a possible foriegn variety and it should have been posted in the foriegn varieties and error forum. Dont be surprised if someone moves this post.

I was impressed on the quality of the item that came from AMSCOPE.
Its a great investment. I keep the two I own covered with sheer cloth when not in use to keep the dust from getting on the eye pieces.
