CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

There are no documented Barber dimes with an overdate of 1916/5.

I know. And there are no San Francisco 1916 quarters, either. Which is what this reverse die has, or used to have, and is still visible. The last time the mint struck an S over the D of DOLLAR was in 1897. Thank you for responding to my topic.

I dont know why I said dime, I meant quarter. Its suspicious.,its like finding a 1878 O Morgan - they were not manufactured in the USA but several exist.

The mint mark is supposed to be on the lower reverse of the Barber quarter. I dont see anything there. There may be some staining there but i dont see anything raised. The mintmarks are typically lower and protected by thecdesign devices, its why they last so long on coins. Its extremely odd to have one worn off before the coin. It would be AG or Poor before it happens.

It will take a really good photo of the mintmark area to convince people this is a 16S. Same for the overdate.

The US Mint very rarely release just one coin so i doubt this would be unique. I personally think this is a plain 16. Maybe others will offer their opinions.
