    1972 Lincoln Cent DDO-010?

    Good morning everyone,

I've been reviewing some of the possible variety and error coins that I've recently discovered and was hoping to get some thoughts on this 1972 Lincoln cent. When comparing it too what is on Variety Vista my initial thought is that it aligns pretty well with DDO-010 but admittedly I'm fairly new to all of this and still learning.

The "2" in the date, the "L", "B", & "E" in "LIBERTY", and "IN GOD" were the things that stood out to me.

I appreciate any input and discussion!

    Hello Mr. Brown,
Happy Holidays to yourself, family and friends.
OK to the coin. The good news is this is a double die. The bad news is that this is a Master Die doubled die. What that means is 1972-P,D,S cents could have been struck with this die and then the working die's could also show this type of doubling. It's very common - I would keep the coin as an example so you can check against other coins from 1972.

Wexler's website has a very nice explaination of what to look for: https://doubleddie.com/

The coin is not the one you reference. DDO-010. When looking at the coin - the true double die only shows slightly on the 7 and then the slight bar above the tail of the 2 in the date.

    Happy Holidays.
    Eric

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond Eric, I definitely appreciate any insights I can get as I work to become more familiar things and experienced myself!

I will definitely plan to hang on to this coin as you suggest for reference. I will spend some more time on Wexler’s website too!

Happy holidays to you, your family, and friends as well!

      Thanks again!

      Nathan
