CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 1951 Franklin Half DDR-005 - NEW!!!!

By way of introduction, since I am new around here (although I recognize a few of you) I am dedicated collector of many years. I primarily focus on Franklin and Bust halves, but I dabble in the varieties and errors. I mostly post on the NGC chat boards, but I recently joined CONECA and so I've been frequenting these boards now too.

Just wanted to share with y'all: I recently discovered a new DDR on the 1951 Franklin Half, and after submitting it to Mr. Wiles, he has listed it as DDR-005: 5-R-VIII. It is very prominent, easily seen with the naked eye, and I'm surprised it escaped detection this long. It shows at the bottom of the bell, on the clapper, and along the bottom of the eagle. What I thought was particularly cool is there are also doubled bell lines, under magnification. It is currently slabbed as MS-64 FBL by NGC, and is a part of my award winning Franklin registry set (Best Presented 2008).

I have included the best pictures I could take of it, but I'm sure Mr. Wiles has better pictures if he wants to share.

Very cool, Congrats on the new discovery. I'm surprised it went this long also.
