    2007-P Utah DDR

Found this lovely specimen this morning while i was cataloging. This is a 2007-P Utah quarter with nice DDR. The coin also exhibits strike doubling which is mostly in the lower portion of the coin (kind of confusing seeing two types of doubling on the same coin).

The problem with having both doubling types is near the bottom of the design, the strike doubling is vertical, while the doubled die is nearly the same direction but slightly diagonal. Strike doubling is obvious on the tops of the letters in EPU. On the right side of the coin, the railroad ties are clearly doubled along wth the track and most of the right-side train. Most notedly the designers initials.

The coin is in a mint set, so you may want to whip them out and look for this example. Only die marker is on obverse, small die crack on designers initials starting at the top of JF and moving to the bottom of WC.

Okay, some of the pictures look like machine doubling, while others have the possibilities of being a doubled die. I would suggest picking an attributer (James Wiles, John Wexler, Billy Crawford) for an in hand examination of this coin. That is the only way we can be sure.
