Well
Well....then there are two separate "Wide AM" 1992 penny varieties....if you are right. The shiny penny is LESS THAN half the distance between the a and m as the darker 1992 penny. Both pennies are philadelphia mint to boot.
Curiously the "Cherrypickers" guide ONLY lists a 1992-D with a "Close AM whereas "Strike it rich with pocket change" lists a 1992-P, but also states this "Close AM" affects both the P & the D mints.
I was extremely disappointed that I waited for the 5th edition of the Cherrypickers Guide and found that is NOT an updated Edition. The pennies only go up to the year 2000 AND STOPS even though the Lincoln penny chapter is titled 1909 to date. The nickels chapter only goes to 1968-S. Where is a comprehensive book that is ACTUALLY up to date?Last edited by Guest; 09-07-2011, 05:22 PM.

It is also good to learn to look at the distances between the M and E in America because they are different on the wide and close AM cents. This usually helps me to identify them.

I know most
I know most dies ARE the same. That is because there are a number of working dies that are made from the master die. The ones that are different are the ones that cause errors or varieties, but for the most part the die details are the same.
However, to contradict myself, I found a second version of the 1989 strong FG initials in that the G on the second version does not have the horizontal bar of the G and the bottom extended serif is pointed rather than blunt.
