CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 1944-S DDO Cent

Here's a Cent I put aside for later attribution. I don't see this DDO listed. First shot is the DDO alone, then an animation comparing with a normal 44-S. Comments welcome. Is this DDO strong enough to warrant further examination?

All 1944-P-D-S have Master Die Doubling. This appears to be it on earlier die states. Check www.varietyvista.com

Yes, you can see the Master Die Doubling in various places on both the "reference" and the "variety" coin. It shows as doubled points on the 2nd 4, and on doubled horizontal lines. But the extra width on the 1 (with notching), the extra width on the upper loop of the 9, extra width on the tail of the 9, and extra width on the verticals of both 4's are all beyond the master die doubling effects I've seen. Is there a 2nd Master Die for 1944 that has these characteristics?

Ray, I honestly don't know I'm just throwing this out there. These could represent different stages of the doubled master hub. Here again just throwing it out there.
