  • 1947 S WASHINGTON QUARTER RPM-003?

I have been searching some coins and ran across a 1947 S Washington Quarter that appears to be a RPM-003. The coin is in a NGC holder 5716072-008 MS66. All 3 of the die markers for Stage B are present on the coin. I have attached some pictures for thoughts.

I can't say for sure, but it could be RPM-003 based on your photos. Same general location, markers are at least similar. What I cannot verify is if it is an actual RPM or not as it's not clear from the photos.

I looked at this one last night and thought the same thing Jason. Can you bring the photo closer? - use the fine setting on your camera before taking the photo. This will usually clean up the photograph so when you crop - I crop at 400Pix High X 600Pix wide. to make the photo clearer. But I shoot close ups from a stand. This will all depend on your camera set up.

The only suggestion I can add is reduce the lighting just a touch on the "S", that may assist in seeing things that hide in the shadows vice oversaturation of the camera itself. I find out very quickly that just a slight change in lighting can make a huge difference. Nothing wrong with showing different angles as well.

My problem with this is, that it is slightly out of focus in order to see what is behind the fog. Some cameras offer a "macro" feature which may be represented by a small flower. I am not sure what type of camera this was taken with, but it if has a macro feature, it may help out. Cameras tend to focus on the top layer of the plastic slab and it will naturally cause the photo of the "S" to become slightly out of focus.
