CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

Update to original post. This does not appear to be a DD as viewing with side lighting the extra (column?) appears to be recessed.

You are correct in that this is nothing more that a post mint scratch between the columns.

It doesn't look incuse. If it is raised it wouldn't be a bag mark or scratch. Nice find.

Thanks Bob. Do you have any idea how such a significant scratch may have not removed copper and exposed zinc? That's the only part of this that I don't get.

It looks incuse and could be a hit or a scratch. It is not a DDR.

I find that the copper plating is more durable than you'd think and that size of a hit would not have to expose the zinc.

I agree that this is not doubling. Off center is incorrect in that this is raised. It is very easily identified as a scratch with the photos provided.
